New version of forum component 2 Years, 9 Months ago
This website currently uses Kunena V1.0.8 forum software. I have been testing the new release of this software for the past couple of days and I'm about to upgrade things here. For a brief period of time the forum will be offline.

Great to see Kunena up and running and to have a fool around.

Like the smooth way registration occurs

I noticed when I registered via this site the "Demo Site - Your Registration is Pending Approval" email said:

Once your email address is confirmed our moderators will be
notified to continue the activation process.
You will be notified by email of the progress of the process

The option of the moderators being notified to continue the activation - can you please explain more. Is this a feature of Kunena or is it a feature of the Community Builder.

Have a simple website Joomla 1.5.10 with a Fireboard 1.0.4, but want the new users accounts to be activated by mods, and also the login button to change to logout. Can I just upgrade to Kunena 1.54 alone or do I need to add CB? Thanks

G'day, ocular, and thank you for kind comments and questions.

The message text you received was generated by the Community Builder registration process. I haven't made any changes to it automatically-generated e-mail text. I'm sorry if it appears a little confusing - I'm surprised anyone even takes notice to read such things. I might have a closer look at it.

You can arrange your registration so that all new registrations have to be approved by the site administrators. This feature is built into both Joomla and CB.

The short answer to your last question question is you don't need Community Builder to operate a Kunena website. This demonstration site merely shows the effectiveness of how to use CB with Kunena. So, yes, you can upgrade to K 1.5.4 without needing CB ... if that's what you want to do.

Can you point to where I turn activation via site admin. for new users for Joomla.

In J 1.5.10 I can find Global Configuration/System/User Settings/New user Account Activation/ Yes- No. The yes just seems to be activation via user email, not via a site admin or forum mod.

thx

Sorry, ocular. I've been using Community Builder for so long i had forgotten. You are correct: there is no "new registrations have to be approved by the site administrators" function in Joomla. This is a CB feature.

Thanks for clearing this up. Can I ask more questions plz? The way the buttons change in the main top banner from username/ pass/ Log in to Welcome/ Log Out when logging in. Is that a feature that is easy to implement. Is it a feature of Joomla, CB or Kunena? Are there standard templates to handle this or is specific changes to code necessary.

Are the Joomla and Kunena user profiles automatically synced or does this have to be done manually?

The security code bit you have for contact and registration is this an addon or part of CB?

All this is a huge learning curve and there is so much info out there on Joomla/CB/Kunena.

Also is it advisable from a stability / security concern to update Fireboard to Kunena?

Thx again

Is it a feature of Joomla, CB or Kunena? Are there standard templates to handle this or is specific changes to code necessary. It was fairly easy to implement this solution using Community Builder. It would take a while for me to explain the few things that I did but the functionality is basically built into the CB login module and one judicious change in the CB language file.

Are the Joomla and Kunena user profiles automatically synced or does this have to be done manually? The Kunena user profiles (and the CB user profiles) are automagically synched with the Joomla database.

The security code bit you have for contact and registration is this an addon or part of CB?These two separate modules use a similarly-developed, but independently-implemented function called RECAPTCHA. I am strongly critical of Joomlapolis for failing to deliver this core functionality within Community Builder (see my last missive to their discussion forum at www.joomlapolis.com/component/option,com...00/id,104530/#104530). I consider that this functionality is essential: it keeps out the bots that have tried to register at this site. You can either pay $50 obtain the CB CAPTCHA plugin, or get RECAPTCHA free. See Site credits in the FAQ section to find where I obtained my software.

All this is a huge learning curve and there is so much info out there on Joomla/CB/Kunena.See also Site credits for links to some useful resources.

Also is it advisable from a stability / security concern to update Fireboard to Kunena?I wouldn't touch Fireboard with a 50-foot barge pole. If you have Fireboard installed, upgrade to Kunena.
