This site didn't magically appear.  It took many weeks of research, planning and experimentation to get it to this point (and it's still "under construction").  For my own sake, as a reminder to myself where I obtained all the various modules that I used in building the site, as well as anyone else who might follow my example and build their own community website, the following is a list of the components that I've used:

As I use more components, I'll add them to this list.

Developing a website using Joomla isn't particularly difficult but it does pay to get some help.  The best resource that I've found is Beginning Joomla:  from Novice to Professional by Dan Rahmel, published by Apress.  This book far and away gets your site up and running in a very short time.  Additionally there are a number of Joomla community sites, of which the following is a small selection:

Last, but by no means least, I have to thank all of those who have joined this site and given their feedback, their support and who've been extremely patient with me as I've become a gibbering mess.  In particular I must thank my "memsahib" who's patiently sat up with me night after night to help me with the site design and documentation and who's put up with me talking to myself in my sleep.  I also could not have done this without the critique provided by my good friends, "George", "''Ness", "Tushy" and "Stormy" ... and to the hundreds of others who've just popped in for a squizz to see what all the fuss was about.

And, finally, I've got my brother to thank (or blame) for telling me about about Joomla in the first place.
